portfolio

this last week of class sucks. getting this portfolio done is not easy considering i have to work everyday for 7 hours after class. so it probably wont get done until tuesday of finals week. it will be in a green folder, and will have my first project, second, and timed writing. i have revised 2 of them but finishing the revising sucks because i have to revise 10 times. karen calls this editing but i think its fine lol i think my final portfolio will be good.

right to speak

i think that being together so long and being comfortable with each other helps us give feedback. doing it so much over the course of the year has made it a lot easier than it would have been in the beginning. now we are used to having to look for ideas and make sure that everything makes sense, so i think that we could go into another classroom and actively participate in giving feedback on peoples papers. and make be knowledgeable about it too, not just changing what we think needs changed.

timed writing

i think they only thing that timed writing can be used for is to see how god students can comprehend a prompt and think of ideas quickly. not how good they write. the its not like a paper you get to think about and research its a prompt you don't know a lot about and they want you to burst out 3 pages that they expect to be great writing. well if you cant revise it or research it how could it be very good. i dont like the fact it is a graduation requirement. i think its stupid. how can they judge how good i can write or anything based on a prompt they give me and say write three pages and if you pass you graduate.

blog

i keep forgetting to do my blog for english. that should be a facebook fan page. my favorite fan pages are the ones of the sayings that are true. about people or just funny things.i never look at the pages i become a fan of though. i always just see what the title is and if i like it i become a fan and if not i ignore it. i don't really think there is a difference between any facebook pages. there not customizable to me. they all look the same. except for wall postings and photos. when we make our pages i tdont really think there is way to make it different or make people want to join it other than if someone likes it or not by what it is about.

ted koppel

i thought that ted koppels speech or conversation was very interesting. how he explained what a trillion dollars was actually showed me how much money that really is. i guess i was ignorant to that. an he explained the war in afhganistan which i think was well needed. i think its another vietnam. its not winable we are trying to just kill some certain people. and they aren't even in afhganistan they are in nearby countries. him talking about how the news is more interested about some blonde that went missing in the carribean rather than why we are at war. or why we are in trouble with the baby boomers getting ready to collect medicare and soc. security. i think hes right about the news now wanting to say whats happened the last five minutes rather than the important issue of whats happened a week ago.

revising

i dont like doing revising because i feel that i am writing the same paper twice. but then again i like revising because it makes my paper so much better. it helps me write better in the long run. revising my papers makes me take a second look at it and see whats wrong which is often a lot of things. i like being able to have good papers in the end but writing and rewriting sucks. revising noly takes at the most 30 to 40 minutes so i guess its not horrible it doesnt take that long to do.

images and community

i still have not started this project on the image that we are supposed to have done tonight. i havent had time to get it done i have had so much work to do this week. but i am loking for a picture as i type. i think i am gona do either a picture on ball state or something to do with indiana. i think that would be simple enough and there should be a lot to write about being im from indiana so that should come somewhat naturally. i know what the state is about.

having that week off class came at an awsome time. i needed a little break this semester is taking forever and we havent had a day off in awhile. or even a class. i was hoping the weather would be bad enough to cancel class but that didnt happen. so having those days off for conferences was needed.

diversity

i think diversity has an affect on everyone. everyday we come in contact with someone of a different race or culture. knowing how to interact with people of different cultures i think should be of value. when we graduate and get our degrees we will be out in the "real world" move to different cities and states or where ever life takes us there will be a new culture. new people who value things differently. knowing the bounderies of race and culture will be very affective in our ability to meet new people and perform in our jobs. by going to these different multiculural events it only benefits us. to if not be able to put ourselves in someone elses shoes who might have it differently than we do at least we will know the history of how different races and cultures came from in this country. by having knowing the history we should all have at least one thing in common.

personality test

we were supposed to take the meyers briggs personality test. when taking this test or the insight game the cards had opposite points of view. but some of the questions i could choose easily between the 2. but some of the others could go both ways. either choice i could choose or neither one was relavent to me. i have the letters from my test ESTJ Assertive, practical, rational, loyal, opinionated and decisive,. i dont think im the type of person that will just take charge and tell people what to do. i don think this is a good result. some of the questions i could have chosen either way.

rev mike lowery

for culture shock week one of the events was a speech by rev. Lowery. rev Lowery gave the benediction to Barack Obama when he was elected and was a very important activist in the civil rights movement. i wasnt all that thrilled to go to the event but in the end i am really happy i did. i thought it was really funny and i learned a few things. i didn't know that he gave the benediction to the election, or that he was a major helper with the civil rights movement.

i enjoyed this speech because it was not just about saying hoe minorities have struggled and most still are and the stufff we hear everyday. it was about his past experiences and how hes seen change. he was really funny too. when he talked about the political parties was hilarious and the choir. and when he talked about Obama calling him and telling him he'd have to check.

the one thing i did not like was that they let that russian girl up to the microphone. o god that was bad. i have no idea what that crazy girl was thinking but man. i wanted to slap her. that was not a question it was a speech and it had nothing to do with him or MLK or anything to that matter.

first blog of new semester

the new semester has started and im pretty excited about it. i am really excited about my new class sechedule and could not wait to get out of chemistry. my last semester classes were horrible. they were all core classes and very, very boring. i really hate some of the core classes here. they are so stupid and boring and make it hard for some people to make it in 4 years theres so many of them. i understand why they have them. that makes perfect sense but man i dont like it. i would like for this semester to be more interesting. i hope to learn a lot but last semester was boring. the same routine everyday. im hoping this semester will be a lot better. i think english this semester will be fun again. i enjoyed it last semester too. this semester will be challenging for me. i have comm also so i will be writing 4 speeches on top of the papers i have to write for english so we will see.
